The Holy Eucharist, also called the Lord’s Supper or the Mass, is the central act of worship in the Episcopal Church. At St. Catherine’s, the Eucharist is celebrated at least twice every week: on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am and 10:30 am. At the Eucharist, we hear God’s Word proclaimed in Holy Scripture and participate in the sacrament of the Lord’s Body and Blood, present in bread and wine. In the Episcopal Church, all baptized Christians are welcome and encouraged to receive Holy Communion, including those who have been baptized in other denominations. If you have not yet been baptized or if you would rather not receive Communion, you are welcome to come forward to receive a blessing. You may indicate your preference for a blessing by crossing your arms over your chest. If you would like to learn more about the sacrament of Holy Baptism or if you would like to learn more about the Episcopal tradition, please speak with the Rector.
Children’s Chapel is offered weekly on Sunday mornings during the Eucharist. Children, ages 4-11, begin the service with their parents and remain in church until shortly before the readings begin. At that time, the children are welcome to move to our downstairs worship area for a program specifically designed for them. At St. Catherine’s, we use the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum for our children’s chapel. The children return upstairs during the Peace to sit with their parents during Communion.
Morning Prayer is offered at St. Catherine’s, Tuesday through Friday, beginning at 8:30 am CST. This short service includes prayers, readings from Holy Scripture, at least two canticles (Biblical hymns), and the Lord’s Prayer. The office of Morning Prayer is rooted in the monastic cycle of daily prayer that developed in the 4th century.
Evening Prayer is offered most Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm CST in the Nave (main worship space) at St. Catherine’s. Like Morning Prayer, the office of Evening Prayer includes prayers, readings from Holy Scripture, two canticles, and the Lord’s Prayer.
Holy Eucharist with Prayers for Healing is offered on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm CST in the Nave (main worship space) at St. Catherine’s. This service includes a celebration of the Holy Eucharist with a public service of healing. The laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil is offered as well.
